UP: Situation improves in clash-hit Saharanpur; Curfew relaxed for 4 hrs from 10 AM to 2 PM

In Uttar Pradesh the situation in clash hit Saharanpur remains tense but under control. The district administration is giving four hours phase wise relaxing in curfew today. AIR correspondent reports that in first phase curfew was relaxed for four hours from 10.AM to 02.00 PM in new city which comprises of Sadar Kotwali, Kutubser, Janakpuri and some parts of Dehat kotwali police stations.

No untoward incident is reported from curfew relaxed area in Saharanpur today. People were seen purchasing essential house hold, food items and other grocery items . The situation seems returning to normalcy. Central Para Military Forces besides police and PAC are constantly patrolling and officials are keeping vigil on the situation. In second phase relaxation will be given from 3 PM to 7 PM in the area of old city which contains Mandi , Sadar Kotwali and parts of Kutuser and Dehat kotwali police stations.

The decision of relaxation in curfew came after a meeting of top civil and police official held at Sahranpur late last night. The Saharanpur district magistrate Sandhya Tiwari while talking to media person yesterday evening said that 38 people have been arrested and 9 FIR registered. Police forces are constantly patrolling and security beefed up at 74 places in curfew bound areas. Educational institutions will remain close till 30th of this month.

Administration is trying to normalize situation at the earliest and has appealed people not to go on rumors. Three person were killed in the clash.

The violent clash between the two groups broke out on Saturday in dawn when a minority group people objected the construction of a place of religious faith of other minority group under Kutubsher area police station. There was a dispute over land between two communities. Both the sides indulged in heavy brick batting, arson and opened fire. more than one and half dozen including two police men were injured in group clash. More than fifty shops and one dozen vehicles were torched. More fire tenders from out of district were asked to douse the fire.

Meanwhile, Home Minister Rajnath Singh today held a meeting with Intelligence Bureau and other senior officials of the ministry and discussed the situation in violence hit Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh.

Mr. Singh had briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday, about the situation in Saharanpur town and the action being taken to maintain peace there. The centre has already offered all possible help to the state government to contain the situation. It has sent 600 paramilitary personnel to assist the state government in maintaining the law and order.
