In Uttar Pradesh, polling for the post of Chairman for Zilla Panchayats at 49 districts concluded today peacefully. Polling booths were set up at the office of district magistrates. In 23 districts, candidates, most of them supported by ruling BSP, have already been declared elected unopposed. It includes 15 women. AIR Lucknow correspondent reports that in most of the districts where polling was held, ruling Bahujan Samaj Party supported candidates have been declared elected after counting. The Congress has won its strongholds Raebareli and newly set up Chhatrapati Shahuji Mahraj Nagar districts while Rashtriya Lok Dal has won Mathura and Baghpat Zilla Panchayats. As per reports available, main opposition Samajwadi Party has won Etawah, Mainpuri, Ghazipur, Faizabad, Jalaun, Gonda and Lalitpur districts. Lone Maharajganj seat has gone in favour of BJP supported nominee. The State Election Commission had appointed 50 special observers to monitor the election process. On the direction of the Commission complete and detail videography was done on polling process.
