UP polls: Nomination for 3rd Phase begins

In Uttar Pradesh, filing of nomination papers for the third Phase of Assembly elections began today. A total of 56 Assembly segments spread over 10 districts of the eastern region is the political battle field of several top notch leaders of the state.Meanwhile, 960 candidates are left in the fray for 55 Uttar Pradesh Assembly seats going to polls in the first Phase on February 8 after rejection of 57 nominations.The nomination process for second Phase of Assembly elections is also on for which several prominent candidates, including the sitting BJP MLA from Gorakhpur Radha Mohan Das Agrawal and BSP state party chief Swami Prasad Maurya from Padrauna filed their nominations.Monday is the last day of filing nomination for the second phase.AIR Gorakhpur correspondent reports that there are several prestigious seats in the third Phase, which will go for polls on February 15.Meanwhile, in Uttarakhand, voting by polling personnel for 70 Assembly seats is under process. Joint Chief Electoral Officer of the state Saujanya told AIR that these polling personnel would be deployed at various polling booths on the polling day across the state.Therefore they would not be able to cast their vote. Keeping this in view Election Commission has authorised these personnel to cast their votes through postal ballot papers.
