The Election Commission has issued notices to recognised political parties in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh taking cognisance of a sting operation allegedly showing aspiring candidates seeking money from corporates to meet their election expenditure.
The EC also asked the Chief Electoral Officer of the state and the Income Tax department in Lucknow to file complaints and conduct probe against the people who were shown in the sting operation aired by a private TV channel.
It has asked the I-T department to probe the source of any bribe funds entailed in the incident.
AIR correspondent reports, in the sting operation, aspiring candidates had admitted that their election expenditure will be between one to three crore rupees which includes expenses in the name of dummy candidates.
