In Uttar Pradesh, one policeman and a farmer died in clashes between them over compensation for the land acquired for Yamuna Expressway project to farmers in Aligarh district.AIR Lucknow correspondent reports that agitated farmers pelted stones on police vehicles and roadways buses and six government vehicles were set on fire. Additional security forces are deployed to maintain peace in the area. It is said that the farmers are against acquisition of land by the state for construction of the Yamuna Expressway road that would connect Aligarh to Noida. They are demanding compensation equal to NOIDA compensation rates. The agitation for better compensation has been going on for about 18 days and situation turned ugly when a farmer leader was arrested late in the evening. Meanwhile, an official spokesperson of state government has said that compensation was enhanced in the month of April this year. He said local administration initiated further actions on the acquired land after vacation of stay of the Allahabad High Court. He has alleged that opposition parties were misleading the farmers. Criticising police firing on farmer’s state unit of Bharatiya Janata Party has set up a three member committee to probe into the incident.
