UP police lodges FIR against Yogi Adityanath for defying EC's ban

In Uttar Pradesh, the police lodged an FIR this morning against BJP MP Yogi Adityanath for defying a ban and going ahead with his public addresses in Lucknow yesterday evening.

A case under article 125 of Peoples' Representation Act and defying already invoked 144 has been registered in Indira Nagar police station of Lucknow against Yogi and other BJP leaders. Uttar Pradesh's Chief Election Officer Umesh Sinha sought a report from the Lucknow district administration and a recording of Adityanath's speech will be handed over to the Election Commission today, sources said.

Adityanath defied the ban and went ahead with his election meeting in Lucknow yesterday and accused the SP government of following a communal agenda.

He was accompanied by state BJP President Luxmikant Vajpayee.
The Election Commission has issued a show cause notice to the BJP MP for violating the model code of conduct by making allegedly inflammatory remarks while campaigning for assembly bypolls in Noida.
