UP Opposition stages walk out over Minister’s reply on law & order

In Uttar, the entire Opposition staged a walkout in the Legislative Assembly expressing dissatisfaction over the Minister's reply on the law and order situation in the state. AIR Lucknow correspondent reports that entire opposition had moved Adjournment motions separately on alleged deterioration of law and order situation in the state saying it was deplorable. During zero hour leaders of the opposition parties including Samajwadi Party, BJP, Congress and RLD were allowed by the speaker. Demanding a white paper on the issue, the Opposition alleged the Mayawati government was forging figures to show the law and order in the state was satisfactory. The BJP also asked the government to spell out its policy with regard to SIMI. Congress Legislature Party leader Pramod Tiwari demanded an all-party meet on the Naxal menace which, he said, was knocking at state's doors.Replying to the allegations of opposition Parliamentary Affairs Minister Lalji Verma said the law and order in the state was satisfactory. He reeled out figures to buttress his point that the crime rate in the state had come down.Speaker Sukhdeo Rajbhar rejected the notices of adjournment.
