UP: Opposition parties demand inquiry in custodial death case

In Uttar Pradesh, opposition parties have demanded inquiry into the custodial death of a youth in a police outpost in Lakhimpur Kheri district on Sunday. Lambasting the state government for poor law and order, the Samajwadi Party and Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) have demanded a judicial inquiry into the incident.Parties have also demanded financial assistance to the deceased family.The CPIML has sent a team to Lakhimpur Kheri and also announced to stage Dharna at the district headquarter today.AIR Lucknow correspondent reports that villagers agitated over the death of the youth in police custody, put the police outpost on fire.Four policemen including the in-charge of the outpost have been suspended and a magisterial inquiry has been initiated.The relatives of the deceased have lodged a named FIR against four policemen and a woman.
