UP: Oppn wants removal of Cabinet Secy, DGP

In Uttar Pradesh, most of the opposition parties today reiterated their demands for immediate removal of several senior-most administrative and police officers including Cabinet Secretary Shashank Shekhar Singh, Principle Secretary- Home, Fateh Bahadur and Director General of Police, Brijlal for their alleged partial working in favour of the ruling Bahujan Samaj Party.

Representatives of different political parties including BJP, Congress, BSP, Samajwadi Party, Rashtriya Lok Dal, left parties and Peace Party met Chief Election Commissioner Dr. S Y Quraishi, Election Commissioners V S Sampat and H S Braham this afternoon at Raj Bhavan and handed over their memorandum of demands to them.

Opposition parties have also demanded effective check on sacked Ministers from Mayawati government and alleged that these Ministers were expediting their official works in back dates.

Parties including BSP have demanded immediate deployment of central Para military forces to insure free and faire Assembly elections.

Complaints have also been lodged against some DMs and district police chief by political parties.

After this, a meeting will be held with the officials from the districts where election is scheduled in the first four phases.

AIR Lucknow correspondent reports that full Election Commission reached this afternoon at Lucknow to review poll preparedness for next Assembly Elections scheduled in seven phases in the month of February.

The Commission has already directed the state government to transfer 259 Block Development Officers from their present posting with immediate effect.

The Commission has taken this decision in view of their over stay in the districts.

For strict implementation of model code of conduct, the Chief Electoral Office has set up a communication centre and similar communication centres are being set up at district headquarters on the directives of the Election Commission.

The Election Commission has lodged 43 FIRs in different cases for violation of model code of conduct and has acted in more than 2 lakhs cases where guidelines were being flouted.

About 4 crore 50 lakh rupees unaccounted cash has been seized at different places in the last ten days from Ghaziabad, Faizabad, Bareily, Meerut, Bulandshahr, and Varanasi districts.
