UP medicos’ strike: Death toll of patients reaches 12

In Uttar Pradesh, the death toll of patients due to non-availability of medical facilities because of medicos' strike, has reportedly reached to twelve. The ongoing strike of doctors has paralysed medical care at government and private hospitals.

Doctors of Kanpur, Meerut, Jhansi, Bareilly, Lucknow and at several other places have also joined the strike crippling the medical services in the state run hospitals across the state.

AIR Lucknow correspondent reports that the tussle between the police and doctors has taken a serious turn with teachers at Ganesh Shankar Vidhyarthi Medical College, GSVM,Kanpur, tendering resignation in protest against the alleged atrocities on junior doctors and arrest of medical students.

The strike is also supported by six other medical colleges in the state in Agra, Saifai, Allahabad, Meerut, Jhansi and Lucknow. While emergency services continued at these hospitals, the junior doctors kept away from duty.

The district administration has already ordered a magisterial inquiry into the Friday night violence. DM Kanpur Roshan Jacob said that the inquiry report has been sought within 15 days.
