In Uttar Pradesh, the Lokayukta Justice N K Mehrotra has recommended an independent inquiry against former the Mayawati government's sports minister Ayodhya Prasad Pal in a disproportionate assets case.

In his recommendation to the Chief Minister the Lokayukta said that a criminal case be lodged against the Pal and that he should be prosecuted under the Prevention of Corruption Act, the Money Laundering Act, Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act and the Forest Act.
