UP: Last date of nomination for first-phase of biennial elections for MLCs extends till 21st March

In Uttar Pradesh, the last date of nomination for first phase of biennial elections for MLCs has been extended. Now the nominations for the first phase of elections on 29 seats can be filed till March 21.
''
''Earlier the last date for nominations for first phase was 19th March while the last date of nominations for second phase was 22nd march. ECI had earlier announced the date in February for the polls for 35 MLC seats. However, following the request of political parties the date was shifted as the MLC polls were clashing with state assembly polls. Nominations for the first phase started on 15th March. As March 17-18 are holidays, the nomination is allowed only on March 15, 16, and 19 from 11 am to 3 pm. The later state government announced Holiday on 19th March on the account of Holi.
''
''That is why new dates are announced by ECI. As per the new schedule, the date of scrutiny for the first and second phases is March 22 and candidates can withdraw their names on March 24. The polling for both phases will be held on April 9. The counting will be held on April 12.
