In Uttar Pradesh an independent MLA in Varanasi district Mr. Ajai Rai was arrested today under the Gangster Act for an alleged attempt to kill a trader. Our Lucknow correspondent reports that a local court has sent Mr. Rai to judicial custody for seven days. An FIR was lodged against the Legislator and his one associate while five unnamed supporters have also been charged with the attempt to murder a businessman by setting him afire under Chetganj police station area in Varanasi city. Seven of them have been taken into custody. <br/><br/>In Gorakhpur district a local Independent MLA Mr. Yashpal Rawat and his two aides have been booked for allegedly killing a man accused of murdering the legislator's father. They are absconding and a manhunt has been launched to nab them.<br/>
