UP: Hectic parleys on to forge truce ?among warring factions of Samajwadi Party

In Uttar Pradesh, the compromise between warring factions of Samajwadi Party still seems to be elusive despite rounds of meetings among Akhilesh, Shivpal and Mulayam Singh Yadav today.

No conclusive compromise formula could be worked out even after intense parleys took place since last week to find a solution which can save the unity and symbol of the party. Senior party leader Naresh Agrawal accused Amar Singh of spoiling the unity efforts of Samajwadi Party questioning the purpose of his visit to Lucknow. However, Amar Singh refuted all allegations against him.

In another move, the Akhilesh camp has told banks to freeze the Samajwadi Party accounts. As a result, more than Rupees 500 crore belonging to the party, which till now was operational with the signature of Shivpal Yadav, have been put on hold.

AIR correspondent reports, the ruling party which was all set to make a big fight in the already announced Vidhan Sabha elections remains infested with bickering, internal feud and intense infight. It is bruised and bleeding at the time when it was supposed to be wearing the gloves. All efforts are going in vain and the danger of freezing the poll symbol 'Cycle' is looming large over its head.

Most of the old guard and Mulayam loyalists like Reoti Raman Singh, Balram Yadav, Rajendra Chowdhary and Ahmad Hasan have also turned their back on the party patriarch. Now Akhilesh seems to be in virtual command of the party having most of the leaders and followers with him. The Party sources say that Mulayam Singh wants the party presidentship back which Akhilesh does not want to part with at least for three months.
