UP: HC orders counter affidavit in PIL seeking CBI probe in MNREGA

The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court has directed the centre and state governments and CBI to file its counter affidavit in a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking CBI probe into a multi-crore rupees scam in the MNREGA projects in the state.A division bench of the court comprising Justices Pradeep Kant and DK Upadhyay has fixed January 3 as next date of hearing into the case.The petitioner has alleged that embezzlement in the funds of MNREGA projects taken up in seven districts including Mahoba, Gonda, Balrampur, Sant Kabir Nagar, Kushinagar, Mirzapur and Sonebhadra. He has alleged that funds were siphoned off by bureaucrats and ruling party leaders.The petitioner has also submitted that the officials and employees involved directly with MNREGA schemes should declare their assets.
