UP govt transfers Bareilly DM, SP; Curfew relaxation withdrawn

In Uttar Pradesh, the government has transferred the District Magistrate and the district police chief of Bareilly following continuous communal unrest in the town.<br/><br/>AIR Lucknow correspondent reports Educational institutions have been closed and relaxation in curfew has been withdrawn in all four curfew bound areas under Baradari, Quila, Premnagar and Kotwali Police stations after large scale protest against arrest of Ittehad-e-Millat Council, President Maulana Tauquir Raza Khan.<br/><br/>He was arrested on Monday for allegedly making inflammatory speeches and provoking people caused breach of peace and disturbance in communal harmony in the city.<br/><br/>The administration has announced that relaxation in prohibitory orders will be given only for two hours from 4 to 6 in the evening in all four curfew bound areas.<br/><br/>Curfew will be continued in night hours. The Director General of state police Mr. Karamveer Singh and Principle Secretary Home Mr. Kunwar Fateh Bahadur Singh had visited the town on Thursday and reviewed security arrangements.<br/><br/>A total of 278 persons have been arrested in the town for their alleged involvement in violence, arson and damaging public and private properties.<br/><br/>Trouble broke out on 2nd of this month when some elements pelted stones on a religious procession leading to a clash between two different groups, which engaged in heavy brick batting.
