<br/>Uttar Pradesh government has directed cane development and excise departments to verify stocks of cane, sugar and molasses or raw sugar at all mills across the state. The government has taken this decision in its bid to check illegal purchase of sugarcane by mills in the current crushing season,<br/><br/>An official spokes person has told our Lucknow correspondent that officials of the concerned departments have been directed to conduct regular raids to verify stocks of sugar at all mills.<br/><br/>It has come in the knowledge of the government that some mills were purchasing cane from the farmers at low rates by offering immediate cash payment. The government has said that purchasing sugar cane at low prices is not only causing financial loss to the farmers, but is also resulting in loss of commission for cane committees and tax to the Centre and the state.<br/><br/>The spokes person has said that during joint inspection by cane and excise department teams molasses in excess quantity was detected at five mills of Ghaziabad , Muzaffarnagar and Saharanpur districts. Action had been taken against all these mills under Molasses Control Act and Essential Commodities Act.<br/><br/>The government has already banned import of raw sugar by the millers in the name of considering interest of sugar cane farmers.<br/>
