<br/>Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited has decided to set up small hydro-power projects through private participation as per the new energy policy to meet growing energy demand.<br/><br/>These minor hydro-projects will be set up at toe of canals and bunds in Muzaffarnagar, Meerut , Saharanpur , Pilibhit, Sonbhadra, Shahjahanpur, Bijnore, Mirzapur, Banda, Lalitpur, Varanasi and Lakhimpur districts.<br/><br/>It has been decided that Non-conventional Energy Development Authority will identify 15 projects and Jal Vidyut Utpadan Nigam will identify 21.<br/><br/>AIR Lucknow correspondent reports that under new power policy, the Corporation has invited Expression of Interest for installation of thermal power plants in the state, in response to which nearly 20 private companies have submitted their proposals to set up power plants with a total installed capacity of 20,000 MW in the state.
