In Uttar Pradesh the government has announced to launch a special one-month-long drive on July 1 to check crime and atrocities against women and girls. It has been announced by the chief Minister Mayawati while addressing a review meeting of law and order and developmental works with senior officers from across the state yesterday at Lucknow. An official spokes person has told that all district magistrates have been asked to convene meeting of all police, civil and health department officers on 29th of this month to chalk out effective strategy in this regard. All SHOs have been asked to prepare a list of persons who were involved in women related crime to initiate stern legal actions against them. The government has directed that the FIRs of crime related to women should be lodged immediately and the guilty should be arrested within 10 days. The Chief Minister has said that if a police officer or a government employee was found conniving with the criminals to manipulate the incident and implicated innocent people falsely in such crimes then the guilty should be immediately suspended. Our Lucknow correspondent reports that with objective of improvement in law and order situation and to give momentum to developmental works government has decided for deployment of senior administrative and police officers dividing the state into three zones consisting 6 divisions in each zone. These senior officers have been asked to spend 06 days of every month in their respective zones and devote full time to monitor and review development and law and order on the parameters fixed by the Government.
