In Uttar Pradesh, the government has requested National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development, NABARD, for lifting ban from 25 non-licensed district cooperative banks of the state and allow them to do banking business. Ban has been imposed by the Reserve Bank of India, RBI.The Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav raised this issue while meeting with NABARD Chairman Prakash Bakshi at his official residence at Lucknow. He requested that as per the recommendation of Vaidyanathan Committee, the remaining amount of 922 crore rupees of central assistance to be received by the state under revival package, should be released immediately.An official spokes person told our Allahabad correspondent that the Chief Minister also sought allocation of at least 2,250 crore rupees from NABARD for achieving the target of agriculture loan disbursement of 4,265 crore rupees in the current fiscal.Mentioning about pending proposals of refinancing of about 416 crore rupees to the UP Cooperative Rural Development Banks, the Chief Minister urged the official that it should be released by end of this month. He also sought financial help for computerisation of District Cooperative banks in the state in view of their financial condition.
