UP govt. recommends CBI probe into Sachan's killing

The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to hand over the investigation into the mysterious death of Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Dr.Y.S. Sachan inside the Lucknow district jail last month to CBI. This was decided in a high level meeting chaired by the Chief Minister Mayawati. Dr. Malati Sachan, wife of Dr. Sachan has filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking CBI probe into the case and three Public Interest Litigation Petitions,(PILs) were filed in Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court in this regard. These petitions are are likely to be heard by the apex court and the Lucknow bench of Allahabad high court today. Dr. Sachan was arrested in the month of April this year on charges of financial irregularities in health and family welfare department. He was also named as the key accused in the murder case of CMO B P Singh following the arrest of three alleged killers. After Sachan's death, the government had claimed that he committed suicide. The post mortem, however, revealed nine injury marks on the body.
