UP govt recommends CBI probe into Pratapgarh DSP murder case

The Uttar Pradesh government has recommended to the Centre for a CBI probe into the killing of Deputy Superintendent of Police Zia Ul Haq at Pratapgarh district on Saturday in cross firing. An official spokesperson told our Allahabad correspondent that the government sent a letter to the Centre in this regard following Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav`s announcement at Deoria district while meeting with family members of slain police officer. The Chief Minister has given financial assistance of 25 lakhs rupees each to the father and wife of the killed police officer. He has also assured that employment will be given to a family member. Members from the Provincial Police Service have also decided to contribute their one day's salary as financial assistance to the family of the deceased officer. A spokesperson from the association told our correspondent that Additional Superintendent of Police level officers will contribute minimum 3000 rupees while Dy. SP rank officers will contribute 2000 rupees.

Meanwhile three policemen including police inspector and senior police sub inspector, Kunda police station, and gunner of the murdered Dy SP have been suspended. The government has said that action will be taken against all policemen responsible for dereliction of duties and the process will also be initiated for their termination from the service in due course of time.Police have arrested two persons named in the FIR lodged on the complaint of the wife of the deceased police officer. Both of them are treated as close associates of controversial independent MLA from Kunda Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiya. Raja Bhaiya has resigned from the Akhilesh Yadav government following registration of an FIR against him along with his four associates.

AIR Lucknow Correspondent reports that after the assurance by CM Akhilesh Yadav, of a CBI inquiry to probe the fateful incident, the family of the slain DSP, Ziaul Haq, agreed to perform his last rites. He was buried with full state honours yesterday evening. The family earlier had refused to bury Ziaul Haq until the CM himself arrived and assured them. On the persistent demand of the family, he also assured them to nab Raja Bhaiya, if found guilty.
