UP govt orders major administrative reshuffle

In Uttar Pradesh, in a bid to revamp the administrative structure of the state, the government today shifted 66 IAS Officers and forty two senior police officers. The include 22 District Magistrates and Divisional Commissioner of Lucknow.

The shifted police officers include four IGs, ten DIGs and twenty eight SSPs and SPs. Taking a strong view of the Badaun incident, the Uttar Pradesh government today suspended Badaun SSP Atul Saxena and the then DM Shambhunath Yadav. Announcing a slew of measures to check crime at a press conference in Lucknow, Chief Secretary Alok Ranjan said that any atrocity against women would be taken into account by DMs and SSPs henceforth.

He said the state government has also decided to impose gangster and NSA against those found disturbing communal and social harmony and abetting crimes. The Chief Secretary said one hundred crore rupees will be spent to modernise the state police. He said the government has also decided to withdraw gunners from everyone except those who have been granted gunners as per rules or by the courts. Chief secretary said the ban on cow slaughter will be implemented with full force.

AIR Lucknow correspondent reports that DGP AL Banerjee on this occasion said that the motive behind the killing of the Badaun victims was related to property distribution. He also said that contrary to the earlier reports the expert examination of the post mortem reports has indicated that girls were hanged after being killed. He said medical examination has proved that there was rape with only one victim.

AIR Allahabad correspondent adds that the state government has transferred 41 senior police officers. They include DIGs of Basti, Saharanpur, Devipatan, Azamgarh and Jhansi and about 30 district police chiefs. Etah district police chief has also been transferred following an incident of rape of two girls yesterday.

Meanwhile, the state government has urged the High Court to allow setting up of fast track courts in every district to speed up the trials for crimes against women. A spokesperson said in Lucknow today that chief minister Akhilesh Yadav has written a letter to Chief Justice of Allahabad high court D Y Chnadrachud in this regard.
