UP govt offers enhanced package to Agra farmers

The Uttar Pradesh government has enhanced land compensation rates for farmers in Agra. They will now get 580 rupees per square metre. It was announced by Cabinet Secretary Shashank Shekhar Singh last night after discussions with a group of agitated farmers at Agra. He also announced that farmers will be given proper compensation for crops, trees and boring well situated on their land according to rules. AIR Lucknow correspondent reports that most of the farmers are not ready to accept the compensation announced as they are demanding the rates given to the NOIDA and Greater NOIDA farmers. Agitated farmers have also declared that they are not ready to give lands for High Tech Township. Dharna of farmers is still continuing at Etmadpur area in the district. On the other hand, in Aligarh district, police released another farmer Kallu who was arrested in Tappal area during agitation. Dharna of famers is still continuing and they have set up a 61 member committee to chalk out future strategy. Meanwhile, farmers from other districts of western region including Firozabad, Meerut and Moradabad held protest against the government over land acquisition issues.
