In Uttar Pradesh the government has banned strike of state universities and degree colleges for six-month. It will be effective in all 12 state universities and 450 affiliated and associated degree colleges and government degree colleges in the state.<br/><br/>AIR Lucknow correspondent reports that in the backdrop of announcement of agitated over 18,000 teachers for the past two months, demanding payment of all arrears of sixth pay commission with effect from January 2006 the government has taken this decision. The government has taken this decision under the Maintenance of Essential Services Act and State Universities act.<br/><br/>The agitating teachers of universities and degree colleges have even threatened to boycott annual examinations scheduled to start in March. Several practical exams scheduled this month have already been cancelled due to agitation by the teachers. The decision has been taken to ensure that academic session does not get affected due to strike by the teachers.
