UP govt asks district police chiefs not to allow religious conversions in their areas

In Uttar Pradesh, taking serious note of alleged recent forced conversion of over two hundred people of sixty families in Agra, the Uttar Pradesh government has sent directives to all district police chiefs to check recurrence of such incident in their respective districts. Home Secretary Kamal Saxena said that the state's home department has taken a serious view of the reports of forced conversion in Agra. The Director General of Police is sending directives to all the SSPs and SPs to check any such incident from recurring anywhere in the state, he said.

Our Lucknow correspondent reports that the respective district police heads have been asked to put their intelligence units on alert and take stringent action if any such incident takes place anywhere. The IG ?Law and order ?said? that the home department has also taken note of some media reports that a similar conversion ceremony has been planned in Aligarh on December 25 ?by saffron outfits ?for which the ?local ?administration? has been? asked to gather information and remain watchful.? Meanwhile, the investigations are on in connection with the FIR ?filed in Agra ?and stern action would be taken against the accused if the charges are found to be true, the IG said?.
