In Uttar Pradesh, the government has asked the Centre to reconsider its decision to grant the powers of search, seizure and arrest to Sashastra Seema Bal SSB deployed on the 15 KM long Indo-Nepal border in the state.An official spokes person told at Lucknow interest of local residents is also necessary who often complain about alleged misbehaviour by SSB personnel and clashes with them.AIR Lucknow correspondent reports in view of the recent incident of Lakhimpur Kheri district in which 2 villagers were killed in SSB firing the state government has made this request to the centre. The state government has alleged that SSB personnel did not have any coordination with the locals due to which a number of incidents of clashes had taken place between them in past.The centre had decided to give power of search, seizure and arrest to SSB personnel deployed in the state by making an arrangement under the CrPC. The state government had earlier also given the power to SSB on Oct 10, 2007 in this regard but withdrawn it later on Aug 14, 2008 due to public resentment.The SSB is deployed along Indo-Nepal border in 2001 to check entry of unscrupulous elements and their activities.
