UP govt. announces reward of Rs 15,000 for information of nine escaped prisoners

The Uttar Pradesh the government has announced cash rewards of 15, 000 rupees for providing information on whereabouts of the nine prisoners who escaped from Meerut jail three days earlier. AIR correspondent reports that this decision was taken by the government on recommendations of the police headquarters. Meanwhile, a senior administrative officer has been given the charge of senior superintendent of Meerut jail. Additional District Magistrate Meerut City has been given responsibility of the senior superintendent of jail. First time an administrative officer has been given charge of jail administration.Earlier just after coming in power Mayawati government had put five major jails of the state including Naini central jail in Allahabad, Varanasi district and central jail, Meerut and Lucknow jails under DIG level police officers. But this exercise has not left any impact on jails security and administration. Nine prisoners, including seven convicts, escaped from Meerut district jail on 19th of this month by scaling prison wall following which the state government had suspended 15 jail staff, including senior officers. The police have launched a manhunt to nab the prisoners but have so far failed to make any headway.
