Uttar Pradesh Governor BL Joshi has given his nod to the ordinance quashing the policy of reservation in promotions. The state cabinet had decided in this regard on Friday and send it to the governor for his final approval. The government's move comes after a Supreme Court order on April 27. Our Lucknow correspondent reports that after consent of the governor, the ordinance has come into effect and it has paved the way for promotion of over 20 lakh state government employee belonging to the general and Other Backward Casts category.The ordinance seeks to do away with Sections of UP government employee seniority rules that brought the controversial policy into effect in 2007. Because of this, the employee of the reserved category enjoyed consequential seniority pushing their counterparts from the general and OBC category into absolute subordination.Employee of the reserved category under the aegis of Arakshan Bachao Sangharsh Samiti, have filed a review petition in the Supreme Court. The Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati has demanded constitutional amendment to undo the apex court order.
