Uttar Pradesh Governor BL Joshi today resigned from his post. Principal Secretary Information of the state Mr. Navneet Sahgal told AIR correspondent that he has sent his resignation to the President. Mr. Joshi was serving as Governor in the state for second term.
Amid reports that the Centre is considering replacing governors of some States appointed by the previous UPA regime, BJP leader Subramanium Swamy today said the governors should resign themselves.
He said they were not appointed on merit by the UPA government. The governors are of States including West Bengal, Kerala, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Maharashtra.
Meanwhile, Congress today termed the move as politically motivated. Talking to a private news channel, Congress leader Shobha Oza said the governors are appointed for a fixed term and should be allowed to continue their tenures.
