UP governor B L Joshi resigns; BJP rejects any political motive behind replacing governors

Uttar Pradesh Governor B L Joshi today resigned from his post and there are reports that the Centre is considering to replace governors of some States appointed by the previous UPA regime.

BJP today said that there is no political motive behind replacing the governors of some states appointed by the previous government. Talking to reporters in New Delhi, party General Secretary Rajiv Pratap Rudy said, the NDA government is only following a tradition. He said the governors should resign themselves when a new government comes to power.

Meanwhile, Congress has said, there is a Supreme Court ruling that governors cannot be removed by whims and caprice. Party spokesperson Sandeep Dikshit told a private TV channel that after the Court ruling, there is ample scope to challenge the move if the government goes ahead with its decision.

CPI (M) leader Sitaram Yechury termed the move as unconstitutional and politically unethical.
