Uttar Pradesh Government's initiatives in the renewable energy sector got a major boost from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy as it has committed to subsidising two of UP's schemes. The solar power packs distributed to residents of Lohia Grams and solar reverse osmosis systems? for potable water supply run by the state government being installed in primary schools in UP, will be subsidised by union ministry. The commitment, which came during the 8th Regional Interactive Meeting between State Government, Potential Investors, Project Developers and the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy in Lucknow on Friday, also saw the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) promising UP to float the tender for 600 MW Solar Parks within a week. Four solar parks?- joint venture between SECI and UP's New and Renewable Energy Development agency (NEDA) are proposed in Kalpi, Allahabad, Mirzapur and Sonbhadra. AIR correspondent reports that in addition to projecting UP as a potential major destination to push renewable energy initiatives, the Centre has also agreed to fund an investment summit focusing on the state's solar rooftop policy. The investment summit will be held in Agra. Speaking at the interactive session on Friday, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav emphasised UP's commitment to encouraging solar power production in the state. He said his government would continue to push the sector despite budgetary constraints. Some states in the country have shown great progress in the solar energy sector, UP wants to catch up too, he said.
