The Uttar Pradesh government has set up a fund with an initial amount of 2 crore rupees for home guard volunteers and their families. The state government has also announced increase in their daily allowance from Rs.140 to 160.AIR Lucknow correspondent reports that about 60,000 home guard volunteers are engaged per month in the state for security responsibilities, including security of jails. The government has also introduced an insurance scheme for the volunteers. Three lakh rupees are to be paid to a volunteer’s family in case of his death. Home guard volunteers enjoy reservation in recruitment for PAC and Jil departments.
