UP: Flood situation still grim in several districts

In Uttar Pradesh, flood situation is still grim in several districts of western and terai regions of the state.AIR Lucknow correspondent reports that over 200 villages, are still under water in Moradabad. About 5 lakh people are affected by floods and flood unit of the Provincial Armed Constabulary of state police and the National Disaster Response Force have so far evacuated over 1 lakh people from the marooned villages. In Rampur, where 221 villages were affected and many marooned due to floods in Kosi, the relief work by the PAC and NDRF is continuing. Over 60,000 people have been evacuated to safer places in the district. The situation in Kanshiram Nagar district remains grim with Ganga flowing above danger level. The water level is likely to increase with the release of about four lakhs cusecs of water from the Narora barrage in Bulandsahar district today. The flood water has inundated about 100 villages in the district.The Army is conducting relief and rescue operations in Shahjahanpur, Badaun and Hardoi districts. In Shahjahanpur district nearly 55,000 people from the 260 affected villages have been evacuated and accommodated in 139 relief camps set up by the administration. The Ghaghra is rising in Barabanki, Beharaich, Gonda and Basti district and is flowing above the danger mark in all four districts. In Beharaich, the river has eroded its bank and several hundred hectares of farmland has been lost. In Gonda district, the Saryu is also rising and 68 villages have been affected.
