UP: Five engineers of irrigation department suspended

In Uttar Pradesh five engineers from irrigation department including one each Chief Engineer, Superintending Engineer and Executive Engineer have been suspended for their alleged dereliction in duties in flood control related works. Quoting official sources our Lucknow correspondent reports that the chief Minister has suspended them for their alleged irresponsible approach towards security of dams and Bunds. It has alleged that suspended engineers have been found prima facie responsible for the breach in Elgin Charsari dam in Gonda district which was breached on Saturday due to the overflowing of river Ghaghara. Flood situation in Barabanki and Gonda districts has aggravated following breach in the ring dam submerging about 60 more villages yesterday. District officials have said that due to this breach 5 villages of Barabanki and 52 villages of Gonda have been affected.
