In Uttar Pradesh, the death toll due to Encephalitis or Brain Fever has mounted to 238 since January this year. Our Gorakhpur Correspondent, quoting heath officials, reports that as many as 13 children have succumbed to the disease in Baba Raghav Das Medical College Hospital during past 48 hours. The dead belonged to Gorakhpur, Sant Kabir Nagar, Mahrajganj and Deoria districts while one patient belonged to adjoining Bihar.Our Correspondent adds that as many as 57 encephalitis patients have been admitted to BRD Medical College Hospital during past two days. Over 270 encephalitis patients are being treated at the hospital. This year, as many as 1460 encephalitis patients have been admitted to various government hospitals of the eastern region.
