UP: EC reviews poll preparedness for 1st & 2nd phase in state

Campaigning touched its peak in eastern parts of Uttar Pradesh where Assembly elections are being held in the first and second phase in nineteen districts. The Election Commission reviewed the poll preparedness for the first and second phase in the state. The nominations for 56 constituencies for the fourth phase ended today and it was the last day today for withdrawal of nominations for the third phase. The political temperature in western UP is also set to rise as nominations for the sixth phase are also beginning from tomorrow. Top political leaders of all major parties are addressing rallies in different districts of the state. The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Bahujan Samaj Party President Ms Mayawati took charge of campaigning for her party candidates. While she addressed a rally in Sitapur district, the Congress President Mrs. Sonia Gandhi addressed rallies in Gonda and Deoria districts today. Samajwadi party President Mulayam Singh Yadav addressed a gathering in Lucknow while Janta Dal United President Sharad Yadav addressed a public meeting in Mau district. Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi also visited Faizabad, Beharich and Ambedakar Nagar today. The Election Commission today reviewed poll preparedness for the ten districts going to polls in the first phase and nine districts in the second phase. The Deputy Election Commissioner Alok Shukla took stock of the detailed arrangements with Electoral and Police officers. The deployment of Security forces in the areas bordering Nepal, was also reviewed for smooth polling.
