UP docs clash: SP MLA booked for attempt to murder

In Uttar Pradesh, Samajwadi Party MLA, Irfan Solanki has been booked on charges of attempt to murder, rioting and voluntary causing hurt. He was allegedly involved in a clash with junior doctors on last Friday in Kanpur which led to statewide protests of medical students and doctors for six days causing complete paralysis of health services.

DIG Kanpur RK Chaturvedi said, an FIR was filed against Solanki at Swarup Nagar Police Station on a complaint made by a medical student injured in the clash. The case was filed yesterday when doctors in Uttar Pradesh, who were on protest demanding action against Solanki, ended their six-day-long strike. The strike was called off after the Allahabad High Court assured the doctors of time-bound probe into the incident.

Our correspondent reports that on Friday last, Solanki and his supporters allegedly accused doctors at Kanpur's Halet hospital of mistreating a patient. In the violence that erupted, several medical students were injured when the police used batons and also arrested twenty four doctors who were released yesterday.
