The Uttar Pradesh Government has denied permission to the Congress to hold Kisan Maha Panchayat at Bhatta-Parsaul village in Gautam Buddha Nagar district on July 9.AIR Lucknow correspondent reports that district administration has denied the permission for security reasons to senior Congress leaders during the Maha Panchayat.Congress National General Secretary Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to attend the Kisan Maha Panchayat. The State Congress has described the State Government's action as an example of autocracy in the garb of democracy. State Congress President Rita Bahuguna Joshi has alleged that the Mayawati Government was not ready to give permission for Maha Panchayat even at villages adjoining Bhatta-Parsaul.She said permission has also been denied for organising the Kisan Maha Panchayat even in Aligarh district.Bhatta-Parsaul village was the epicenter of a farmers' agitation against acquisition of their land by the State Government. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had also visited the villages and later a group of farmers from these villages met the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh.
