UP continues to reel under severe cold

In Uttar Pradesh, cold wave conditions prevailed in most parts of the state paralysing normal life and road, rail and air traffic for more than a fortnight. Lowest temperature of 2.8 degrees Celsius was recorded at Meerut during last 24 hours. Night temperature was appreciably below normal in some parts of eastern and western parts of the state. Weather experts have forecast that mainly dry weather will prevail in the state in next 24 hours.<br/><br/>AIR Lucknow correspondent reports that People of the state were yet to receive any relief from the severe cold and foggy conditions prevailing across the state. Thick and heavy fog engulfed several parts of the state and it has hit the rail, road and air traffic badly. Cold day conditions abated in some parts of the state, but prevailed in eastern parts of the state. Night temperature has been recorded fell and below normal at Varanasi, Allahabad Gorakhpur, Kanpur and Meerut divisions. The maximum temperature too dipped sharply at many places.<br/><br/>There is no end to passenger woes as the trains continue to run late due to persistent foggy weather. The trains are running late for about 12 to 22 hours causing problems to the passengers. Some of the trains are being delayed for more than 24 hours. A number of flights and trains have been cancelled or rescheduled. Delhi-bound buses from Lucknow have been cancelled till the next order in the view of heavy blanket of fog. In most of the districts primary and junior high schools are remained closed and timings for other classes have been changed.<br/><br/>Meanwhile, the death toll due to cold and dense fog has reached to 690 till now in the state. In the last 24 hours, 23 more people died of severe cold and foggy weather. The deaths included seven in Siddharthnagar, five in Basti, four in Deoria, three in Jaunpur, two in Sant Kabir Nagar and one each in Bareilly and Agra district.
