In Uttar Pradesh, 8 Mayoral seats from Gorakhpur, Moradabad, Aligarh, Lucknow, Varanasi, Agra, Kanpur and Jhansi Municipal corporations have gone in the favour of Bharatiya Janata Party. Results from Ghaziabad and Meerut Municipal Corporations are awaited where BJP nominees have maintained their leads. One each seat has gone in the favour of SP and BSP supported candidates. The State Election Commission has banned victory processions by the winner candidates. AIR Allahabad correspondent reports that Bareilly seat has gone in the favour of ruling Samajwadi Party supported candidate IS Tomar while Abhilasha Gupta wife of Mayawati government minister Nand Gopal Gupta alias Nandi has won the mayoral seat at Allahabad. The BJP has wrested Jhansi Municipal Corporation from Congress and Moradabad from ruling Samajwadi Party. Counting 186 Nagar Palika Parishad and 388 Nagar Panchayats from 71 districts is going on amid tight security at district and Tehsil headquarters. Elaborate security arrangements have been made for peaceful counting at all counting centres. Most of the results for members for wards elections in the Municipal corporations have gone in the favour of BJP and independent candidates. Elections in remaining four districts of Kannauj, Ramabai Nagar, Auriya and Mathura will be held on July 18 and 19.
