In Uttar Pradesh, campaigning for 11 Lok Sabha seats has intensified as only two days are left for campaigning. Polling for these seats will be held on Thursday.
The Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh has already addressed two rallies in Kheri and Pilibhit constituencies. Congress President Sonia Gandhi will be addressing two election rallies today at Bareilly and Moradabad. BJP leader Narendra Modi will address two rallies at Shahjahanpur and Lakhimpur Kheri constituencies.
BJP has put its hoards of leaders for campaigning in Ruhelkhand region going for poll in this phase. Samajwadi Party President Mulayam Singh Yadav has also busy schedule in Rampur, Sambhal and Nagina constituencies. Several Samajwadi Party leaders including Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav are also having very hectic schedule to address election rallies in the region.
Meanwhile, scene of electoral fight for 14 Lok Sabha seats now has been cleared after ending of process of withdrawal of candidature. A total of 232 candidates have been left in the fray in 14 constituencies of Dhaurahara, Sitapur, Mishrikh, Unnao, Mohanlalganj, Lucknow, Raebareli, Kanpur, Jalaun, Jhansi, Hamirpur, Banda, Fatehpur and Barabanki. Polling will be held on April 30.
Our Correspondent reports that maximum 29 candidates are in the fray in Lucknow constituency followed by 21 each in Kanpur and Unnao. 18 in Mohanlalganj, 17 in Raebareli, 16 in Sitapur, 15 each in Dhaurahara and Hamirpur, 14 each in Jhansi, Fatehpur and Barabanki, 13 in Banda and 11 candidates are in contest from Jalaun seat.
Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, BJP leader Rajnath Singh, Dr MM Joshi and Uma Bharti, Union Minister and Congress nominee Jitin Prasad , sitting Congress MP Annu Tandon and PL Punia, BSP MP Brajesh Pathak, AAP candidate Javed Zafri are major contestants of this phase.
Nomination process will resume from tomorrow for 15 constituencies spread over 17 districts of central and eastern regions of the state. These constituencies will go for poll on May 7. A total of 18 nominations have been filed for this phase of polls till now.
The constituencies are Amethi, Sultanpur, Pratapgarh, Kaushambi, Phulpur, Allahabad, Faizabad, Ambedkar Nagar, Bahraich, Kaiserganj, Shrawasti, Gonda, Basti, Sant Kabir Nagar and Bhadohi.
Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi from Amethi, BJP candidates Shyama Charan Gupta from Allahabad and Keshav Prasad Maurya from Phulpur, BSP nominee Rakesh Pandey from Ambedkar Nagar and SP candidate Brij Kishore Singh from Basti have filed their papers.
