In Uttar Pradesh, the Samajwadi Party has won Pipraich Assembly by-election. Party candidate Rajmati Nishad defeated her nearest rival independent Jitendra Jaiswal alias Pappu by a margin of over 26 thousand votes. The by-election was necessitated due to death of sitting BSP MLA Jamuna Prasad Nishad. BSP and Congress had not fielded their candidates in this election. BJP's candidate came third.
