UP bandh evokes partial response in state

In Uttar Pradesh state wide Bandh call given by Kisan Sangharsh Samiti evoked partial response across the state. AIR correspondent reports agitated farmers demonstrated at several places including in Aligarh, Agra, Mathura, Moradabad, Ferozabad and Bulandshahr districts. In Aligarh public transport was badly affected on Khair Tappal road. Several educational institutions were closed as precautionary measures. At several place farmers stalled the public transport in the district. In Agra agitated farmers demonstrated on Kanpur Agra highway and two government vehicles including a roadways bus were set on fire. Police resorted baton charge to disburse the mob. In Bulandshahr district farmers staged demonstration Budhaka railway station disturbing trains movement. In Ferozabad district road traffic on Agra highway was badly disrupted as farmers organised Dharna on the road. Several political parties and farmers outfits including BJP, Congress and Bharatiya Kisan union have extended their support to Bundh. In Lucknow state president Surya Pratap Shahi and several other leaders of BJP were arrested while demonstrating in favour of demands of farmers. In most of the districts BJP and Congress workers handed over memorandums to officials supporting farmer's demands. Elaborate security arrangements were in place throughout the state to maintain law and order during Bundh. Farmers had called Bundh to press their demands to hike compensation for their land acquired for Yamuna Expressway project. Meanwhile the Samajwadi Party has announced to organise demonstration and Dharna on Thursday at all district headquarters across the state in the support of farmers agitation.
