UP assembly poll counting to begin amid tight security

In Uttar Pradesh, counting of votes for all 403 assembly constituencies will be taking place from 8 AM at district head quarters amid tight security. It is being held in the presence of observers deployed by the election commission.

Our Lucknow correspondent reports that there are 75 counting centres in 72 districts. While in each district counting is taking place at one centre, except for Kushinagar, Azamgarh and Chhatrapati Sahuji Maharaj Nagar where it is being held at two different places. Counting of votes of the constituencies from newly set up districts of Panchsheel Nagar, Prabuddha Nagar and Bheem Nagar is being taking place at the old district headquarters from which they were carved out.

Elaborate security arrangements have been made in and around all the counting centres and Central forces are deployed for the purpose. The whole counting process is being video graphed for which video cameras are installed and micro observers are also deployed at every counting table. The Election Commission has issued guide lines for transparent and honest counting. The Commission has banned the mobile phones into the counting places.

Only poll officials and media persons are allowed to carry mobile phones with themselves. The Commission has also banned for taking out victory processions. The Commission has directed that winning candidates should be send to their residences under proper security cover.
