Uttar Pradesh government has announced a new policy for land acquisition to resolve the ongoing agitation by farmers in Aligarh and Agra.Talking to media persons, state Cabinet Secretary, Shashank Shekhar Singh said at Lucknow, under new policy, farmers will be provided Rs. 20,000 per acre for 33 years for their land acquired for any project in addition to compensation for land. He said Rs. 600 will also be given as annuity on Rs. 20,000. If any farmer will not be interested for annuity he will be given Rs. 2,40,000 lump sum as grant for rehabilitation for his family. He said farmers will also be entitled for 25 shares for the land acquired by any company.Giving the details of new policy, Mr. Singh said 7 percent of acquired land will be marked for housing purposes of owners of the land if lands will be acquired for development. He said farmers will be given a plot of maximum 120 square meter of area and concerned authority may allot plots to the farmers as per the policy.AIR Lucknow correspondent reports state government has also indicated it can drop the high-tech township project at Tappal in Aligarh considering farmers agitation. The government has acquired lands for the JP Group of Industries for developing township at Aligarh and Agra along with Yamuna Expressway.
