The Uttar Pradesh Government has announced a new land acquisition and compensation policy. Announcing the policy, Chief Minister Mayawati said in Lucknow that there will be three parts of the policy. One for land acquisition for National Highways and canals while second part deals with the land acquired for the purpose of development. Third relates to the land acquired by private sector for establishing power plants and other industrial units. She said that for private sector, government will not acquire land under new policy and private operators will deal directly with the land owner and minimum 70 per cent farmers' concern will be must for land transfer.
