UP all set for 1st phase of Assembly elections

The stage is set for the first phase of polling tomorrow for the Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh. In the first phase elections, more than one crore, seventy lakh voters in 55 constituencies of ten districts, will decide the fate of 862 candidates, including 31 sitting MLAs and 15 former Ministers. The state Chief Electoral Officer Umesh Sinha said that polling will be held from 7 am to 5 pm.

The Election Commission has made elaborate arrangements for tomorrow’s poll. Most of the polling parties have reached their destinations. About nineteen thousand polling booths have been made in ten districts. Quoting State Electotoral Office, our Allahabad Correspondent reports that more than six thousand polling booths have been identified as sensitive. Strict security arrangements have made for tomorrow's poll. More than two lakh security personnel, including 680 companies of para- military forces, have been deployed to ensure free and fair polling.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission today also reviewed the poll preparedness for the fourth and fifth phase of elections. A meeting was chaired by Deputy Election Commissioner, Alok Shukla in Luknow today. The state's Principal Home Secretary, Director General of Police, the District Magistrates and Police Superintendents of the concerned districts took part in the meeting.
