In Uttar Pradesh, around 20 people are feared killed as Goraknath Express going from Delhi to Gorakhpur, rammed into a stationary freight train at Chureb railway station near Khalilabad in Sant Kabirnagar district, around 10 in the morning today.
Six coaches have been damaged in which several passengers were also injured. Unconfirmed reports said that around twenty persons were brought out dead from the damaged coaches, however, the authorities have not confirmed the number of deceased persons.
Talking to AIR, Chief PRO of North Eastern Railway, Alok Kumar said that four general coaches, one SLR and one AC coach has been damaged in the accident.
Kumar said that medical team has reached the spot and the relief and rescue operation is going on. The down track of this rail section is obstructed because of the accident.
The nearby villagers of Chureb station were first to reach the accident site who immediately started the rescue and relief work.
Now several senior administrative and rail officials have reached the accident site and the rescue operation is going on in full swing.
The injured are being rushed to Basti and Sant Kabirnagar hospitals and also to Gorakhpur railway hospital.
A relief train has already started from Gorakhpur which is about to reach the site. The number of killed and injured may escalate as the accident is severe and rescue operation is still going on.
