UP: 154 candidates in fray in 10 constituencies

In Uttar Pradesh 154 candidates have been left in fray in 10 constituencies after the withdrawal of nominations ended today. These seats mostly from western UP go to polls in the first phase.

AIR Correspondent reports that 15 candidates withdrew their candidature and 87 nominations were rejected in scrutiny. Maximum 24 candidates are left in fray in Gautam Buddha Nagar constituency followed by 19 in Muzaffarnagar seat.

Minimum 10 are in contest in Bulandshahr constituency. 15 candidates each are are contesting from Saharanpur, Baghpat, Ghaziabad and Aligarh constituencies. 14 candidates each are in fray in Meerut and Kairana constituencies are 13 in Bijnore seat.

Nominations for second phase of polls in the state also concluded this evening and a total of 203 nominations have been filed.

79 papers were filed today the last date for nominations. Scrutiny of papers will be held tomorrow and March 29 is last of withdrawal. Polling in these constituencies will be held on April 17 in which about 1crore 80 lakhs voters are eligible to exercise their franchise.
